*6:55 got kids ready, hair, breakfast, packed lunches and a bible story. Mitch had to leave for work early this morning for an early morning meeting, so he was leaving as we were rising. he went to kiss the kids good bye as they were sleeping, but the kids yelled at him for waking them up, yelling "get out!" Tsk Tsk Tsk, my children are so charming in the morning :(
*lit a candle, turned on music
*made beds
*dolled up
*wiped down bathroom counters. The bathroom still smells like bleach, ugh
*put away laundry
*planned dinner
*9 am Mitch is home from his meeting and we enjoy breakfast together, an egg and grilled cheese sandwich, blueberry oatmeal and coffee :). After some quiet time alone together it's time to send him off to work with a kiss and a packed lunch
*dishes
*picked up in the kitchen and living room
*swept the down stairs floor
*took the garbage out to the road
*enjoyed my quiet time in A Purpose Driven Life before starting my chores
Wednesdays I work in the bedrooms, Tuesdays the bathroom, and Mondays the living room
*in our room I polished the furniture and mirrors
*scubbed the baseboards, light switch plates, and wiped any small finger prints off the walls
*tidied up the closets
*organized the kids' rooms. I usually have them pick up their own room and their own mess, but once a week I go in and make sure their closets and drawers are tidy, clean what they've missed, like under the bed and I organize the toys, this helps them keep it clean through out the week. When Maddox came home he asked, "hey mommy, did you clean my room"? - yes "I love you mommy." that right there makes it all worth it :)
*2:30 I picked up the kids and their friends. Waiting for them at home were 4 snack necklaces and juice boxes. The necklaces were a big hit :)
*after homework I had to sit in the middle of the hallway in between Skylar's room and Maddox's room to keep the boys from fighting with the girls. I felt this was as good of time as any to paint my nails :). Some get to have their nails done in a salon, me...I get to do it myself while playing referee :)
*Mitch had to close at work tonight, so we ate my homemade Chinese food of fried rice and egg rolls (recipe found on pinterest of course) just the 3 of us around the table while I tried to fish for details of their school day
*Before bed we finished the last 2 chapters of Wizard Of Oz and a page out of the children's bible devotional, then it's kisses and hugs and don't let the bed bugs bite. Mitch is home soon after :)
I read this verse today, and it just kind of stuck with me:
A pretentious, showy life is an empty life; a plain and simple life is a full life
~ Proverbs 13:7 (message)

Today's Accomplishments
I doubt I'll keep up with my daily accomplishments every night, but its fun for me to look back on my day and see how it was filled.
*7:00 am (I over slept) got the kids ready- hair, breakfast, packed lunches and a bible story before school
*kissed Mitch good bye for work
*lit a candle, turned on some music
*got all dolled up. I may not have coworkers to impress, but I want my children to think of me as a pretty mommy and my husband to think of me as a pretty wife. Not to say that I haven't taken advantage of hanging out in my pjs all day, because I have, but today (like I try to most days) I dolled up.
*made the beds
*wiped down the bathroom counters
*put away laundry and straightened up the bedroom
*washed dishes
*straightened up the living room and kitchen
*swept the down stairs floors
*planned dinner
*for lunch I enjoyed my husband's company, for he came home on his lunch hour and I fixed him a grilled cheese sandwich and a side of left over macaroni and cheese :) I love it when my hubby comes home for lunch :)
*after lunch I finished up my Proverbs 31 woman bible study that I have been working on for the past 14 weeks through a blog, Good Morning Girls. LOVE that study! And I was glad to finally have it complete. Also in my quiet time I read the second chapter of A Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren...I hope it's a good read. Through out the day I enjoyed texting my friends and sending messages back and forth via Facebook, and it's rare for a day to go by with out a phone call to or from my sister, mom, grandma, or friend (blessed!).
For my chores I:
*mopped the living room, dinning room, and kitchen floors
*scrubbed the toilets
*cleaned the baseboards in the main bathroom
* polished the bathroom mirrors
*scrubbed the grout in our master bathroom with bleach. It made a big difference, but I still have a Clorox headache
*mopped the bathroom floors
*2:30 I picked the kids up from school. I also got to bring home one of Skylar's friends! 3 days out of the week I watch a friend of mine's kids after school. It's a fun way for me to earn some extra money, and my kids have fun playing with some extra playmates. I usually watch 2, but today I only had one.
*after snacks it's time for homework. I helped the girls with their math, vocabulary and spelling. Later during reading time, Skylar read independently to herself while I read 2 more chapters to Maddox out of his library book, The Magic Treehouse
*with the house cleaned, and homework done I then got to watch the kids play and answer whatever random questions they had for me, and share yet another embarrassing childhood story of mine-the embarrassing stories are their favorites and then they like to tell their friends. I don't know why I keep feeding them theses stories, I guess I just like to hear them laugh :)
*for dinner I made crispy chicken over bowtie pasta with this cream sauce I found on pinterest, served with green beans and garlic bread. Mitch is home and we all enjoyed dinner together around the table. Skylar said the blessing tonight, and we all shared stories about our day.
*dishes
*wipe down the kitchen and dinning room table
*8:00 it's time for baths, brushed teeth and hair and another chapter out of The Wizard Of Oz. kisses, hugs, and don't let the bed bugs bite.
*my day is complete and now I get to spend some alone time with Mitch and I'm starting a new crochet project, a green blanket.
Looking over my list of what I do all day may seem like I live day after day completing mundane tasks, but I truly enjoy making my house a home and spending quality time every day with myself in the morning, quality time with my children in the afternoon, and quality time with my husband in the evening. I thank God for these days and my life. Besides, not everyday is so "routine" ;)

My Accomplishments
This is something I use to do, record my accomplishments from the day, make a personal "ta-da" list. This is really something that I do just for myself, a little look back on my day and give myself a pat on the back for a job well done. It comes in handy when I'm feeling down and thoughts flood my mind of "what did I really do to contribute, and does anyone really notice what I do around here anyways?" Then there are those days where people ask me after finding out that I'm a housewife, "what do you do all day?" some are genuinely curious of how I fill my days, while others ask in a judging tone, assuming I'm a lazy bum who mooches off her husband. Even with critics out there, I really do enjoy what I do, being a housewife and stay at home mom. Of course I don't always receive criticism, there are many people out there who appreciate a stay at home mom and I welcome their encouragement, but still, the jabs hurt. I don't think I'm better than anyone by staying at home, though I do feel privileged and I certainly don't think less of any woman who works away from home. I know and understand that they have a lot on their plate, so many kudos to them! Growing up I never really considered being a stay at home mom, mostly because I didn't know any housewives and from the time you start kindergarten parents and teachers seem to urge you to pick a career for when you grow up and stay at home mom was never served as an option. I thought about becoming a teacher, veterinarian, zoo keeper, photographer or a nurse. Those all seemed like fun options, but my true dream was to become a wife and mother. As a child I would play house with my friends, or play mommy to my baby dolls at home. Growing older I thought more and more about who my prince charming/future husband would be and fantasize about what it would be like to have little me's. As a teen I LOVED babysitting, especially babies. And as I hoped it would happen I met Mr. Forever at a young age and though not planned we started our family very early. Right away Mitch asked me if I would like to stay at home? He was raised by a stay at home mom and several men that he looked up to had stay at home wives, so this was a natural option for him. Upon meeting our first child I couldn't bear the thought of being away from her and I knew we made the right choice with me staying at home. It just feels natural and this arranangement works best for us and our family. So what do I do all day? Each day is something new, mixed in with the same ole same ole, but this is what I did today:
*6:45 am got kids ready, straightened Skylar's hair finishing with a bow and fohawked Maddox's hair.
*served breakfast, packed lunches and read a bible story before taking the kiddos to school
*packed Mitch's lunch and sent him off to work with a kiss
* started my daily routine of:
*wiping down the bathroom counters
*making up the beds
*putting away laundry
*light a candle, turn on music
*washed dishes
*planned dinner
*picked up clutter out of the living room
*swept
(I usually have a quiet time or bible study time, but I didn't do that today)
*start on chores. (everyday is something different)
*dusted, including the bedroom ceiling fan, it was getting quite dusty
*wiped down the living room baseboards
*cleaned finger prints off the living room wall and light switch plates
*emptied all the trash
*polished the windows in the kitchen, dinning room, and living room
*swept off the stairs, cleaned the stair rails and spindles
*watered the house plants
*watered the vegetable garden
By 12 the house is usually clean, so I enjoy having the opportunity to relax and sip on some coffee, read a book, read a blog, check Facebook, "research" homemaking stuff on pinterest, work on a craft, and/or make a phone call or two to my sister, mom, or friend and on some days I am fortunate enough to meet up with a friend or my husband for lunch. And on week days that my husband is off work, we enjoy a full date day until its time to pick up the kids. I've also been known to volunteer at the kids' school from time to time. I didn't always have this "free time", this time only opened up to me once Maddox started kindergarten - K4, which was just 2 years ago. Today I spent my free time reading a couple of blogs, checking Facebook and pinterest and making a phone call to my younger sister who is also a housewife and a first time expectant mother.
*2:30 I picked up the kids from school, headed home for snacks and homework.
*read to Maddox his library books, The Cloud Spinner and The Magic Treehouse Sunset Sabortooth while Skylar read The Giving Tree to herself. Afterwards I checked Skylar's math and helped her study her vocabulary words and spelling. Homework is usually done by 4.
*tonight for dinner I made grilled BBQ chicken, mash potatoes with gravy, baked macaroni and cheese and garlic bread
*more dishes needed to be washed and the kitchen needed to be cleaned.
*got the babies bathed and had them brush their teeth and hair before reading to them 2 more chapters of The Wizard of Oz, and then it was off bed, kisses and hugs and "don't let the bed bugs bite".
*by 8:30 the kids are sleeping, the house is cleaned, my chores are done and I get to spend a relaxing evening like I do almost every single night snuggling with my husband, watching tv before bed. I wouldn't have it any other way.
My days are always busy and I am never bored, there is always something to do. I do however get to enjoy some "me time" in this stage of life while the kids are in school, and I am thankful for that time. I believe it keeps me sane and calm and having those 2 or 3 hours at night alone with my husband in a clean house while the kids sleep is super helpful to our marriage. God willing, I'll do this all over again tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it.

Days Like Today Make My Heart Smile : )
Not that it was a perfect day, the kids still fought, I had to remind them at least a dozen times to clean their rooms, I yelled a few times, and not every room ended up spotless by evening, and yet my heart is still smiling.
Our morning started out slow, like it usually does on summer mornings. For breakfast we all had something different while dad was away at work, a pop tart for sissy, oatmeal for my stinker, and cereal for me. Lunch is usually the same, always a pb&j for my sweet boy, soup for my princess, and a tomato from my garden sandwich for me. For dinners I have a different additude:
As the kids ran wild today as they usually do, I tidied up, tended to my garden, planned for dinner, and sanded an old bed that was recently passed down to me by my grandma. This bed use to belong to my uncle when he was young, but now I am sanding it down to paint it white, to make it new for my daughter. Sanding a bed in 90+ degree weather is something that I would have never of taken the initiative to do before my work in Haiti. I would have considered it "mans work", kind of like mowing the lawn, but now since I want it done and I know how, I am actually proud of my work! I'm hoping to have it complete before her birthday, just a week and a half away.
After dinner the kids played a game of checkers and then we all enjoyed a another chapter from Treasure Island.
Days like today make me want to freeze time, freeze these moments when Maddox still sucks his thumb and snuggles his mommy, freeze the moments when Skylar still wants to help in the kitchen and the kids fight over who is going to say the blessing first, and who I am going to tuck in first, but I kiss them goodnight, and laugh at the days to come.
My wonderful day ends with my loving husband and a glass of wine and I look forward to tomorrow's blessings.

No more flies!
As the spring came in I started having trouble with flies, both fruit flies and the common fly. So after researching pinterest (where I do most of my research) I found a couple solutions that actually work! Both were real simple with items I already had around the house. The first is the fruit fly trap (above). Simply place a banana in a jar, create a funnel with a sheet of paper and then be sure to tape the edges. The flies fly in but they can't find their way out.
I was confident in the fruit fly solution but I was skeptical about the common fly trick (picture below). I love sitting on my back porch, but it can be invaded with flies, then I have to sweep away the dead ones, I was willing to try anything, even if it seemed silly. This idea came from pinterest and the pinner said to simply hang up a ziplock bag of water over the door frame. This is suppose to work because a fly has hundreds of eyes so the light reflecting off the bag keeps them away. My back porch has been fly free for 3 weeks now!

Sweet Aroma

Though I prefer the seasons spring and summer over fall and winter, I do love the warm colors and the smells associated with this cooler weather. Welcoming in the fall weather means breaking out the vanilla, cinnamon, and pumpkin scented candles. I love these smells. It also means apple pies, warm apple cider and peanut butter cookies, treats that are created in the kitchen and yet fill your entire home with a sweet and warm aroma. Cooler weather also means more indoor gatherings with a cup of coffee in each hand. So as you gather together with friends and loved ones this season I would like to encourage YOU to be the sweet aroma of Christ's love. Let your presence fill each room with his grace and knowledge of Him. Take advantage of each gathering, for Heaven is real and I wouldn't want anyone to be missed.
2 Corinthians 14-15
"But thanks be to God, who always leads us as captives in Christ's triumphal procession and uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing."
Don't want to waste your money on those expensive candles? Here's an alternative that I LOVE using: in a coffee mug fill with warm water and mix in 2 tbs of vanilla extract and 2 tbs of allspice. Put the coffee mug on a cookie sheet and place in the oven at 300 degrees F for one hour. This sweet aroma will fill your entire home for a fraction of the cost.
God Bless!

Cozi
I have recently discovered this great little website and phone app for all of my to do lists, shopping lists, and calendar. So I just had to share! It's called Cozi. Have you heard of it? For me it's a time saving tool for homemaking. I love that I can carry this neat little app of all my reminders around with me on my phone and in my pocket! No more lists and lists of to dos and shopping hanging on my fridge only for me to rewrite them over and over again, now I just click, type, check off, and delete. It is so perfect! Probably one of my favorite features of this app is the journal, I can jot down precious moments with a photo that happens within our family and then have those moments sent out monthly as a newsletter to friends and family. There have been so many times where my kids have done or said something cute or funny and I wish I would have jot it down to remember, now its convenient and I can share it too! This simple app is a time saver for me and best of all it's family shared, so my husband can log in while he's at work and put in items he needs from the grocery store as he thinks about it, and together we can keep our family calendar updated. If you make lists as much as I do, then you'll love this website! The site and app is free, easy, and helpful. It's call Cozi and you can check it out here.
Here is an example of what it looks like online:
And this is what it will look like on your phone:

Online Homemaking Tools
As a wife, stay at home mom and a full time homemaker I am always looking for ways to make my home run smoother. Below are some online tools that I have found to be extremely helpful in my home. Please be sure to click on the links below and to check them out for yourself!
2. The Grocery Game - The Grocery Game is a couponing website. Since using the website I will save up to 40-50% on my grocery bill, and the groceries I get are name brand. This website also encourages you to stock pile on food which helps you save even more. This website is easy to use and is in my opinion couponing for dummies, which is what I need lol. It is $10 every other month, but the money you save in groceries is well worth it.
3. Southern Saver - Southern Savers is a similar website to The Grocery Game, only it is free! It does require a little more skill and thinking when it comes to couponing.
4. Plan to Eat - Plan to Eat is a meal planning website. I love this website. This site has made meal planning and grocery shopping so much easier for me. You have an online recipe book that you build of your favorite meals from breakfast, lunch, dinners and snacks. You can even share these recipes with friends or keep them secret. Then on a calendar you plan your meal for a week, or just a few days or even for a whole month. From there you can make a shopping list for your week's worth of groceries and it automatically pulls up your ingredients that you will need for your meals. You can also click away the ingredients that you already have in your pantry, and then print off your list before you go to the store (Be sure to grab your coupons from thegrocerygame.com to save money ;) ). Meal planning made easy. This website is $39 a year or just 4.95 a month, and in my opinion it is well worth it!
5. Say Mmm - is a similar website to Plan to eat, only it is free!
6. X3Watch - is a very helpful family tool to use on our tech toys, such as our computers, phones, tablets, etc. X3Watch is an online integrity and accountability tool. This tool can be used to keep eyes on what your children are looking at online and to keep you and your husband accountable on what the two of you are looking at online as well. We all need covenant eyes and this is a great resource to keep our eyes and our children's eyes away from online sin.
I hope that you find these websites just as useful as I do in my home. They certainly have helped me make homemaking just a little bit simpler, welcoming, on a budget, and safe.
Thanks for reading,
God Bless!

Jumping Back into Routine
I am back from my trip to Haiti and what an amazing and spiritual trip that was! I plan on blogging about it later in the week along with pictures and videos. As for today and the rest of my week I am going to have to get back to normal! Which means working, cooking, cleaning, carpooling, homework, soccer games, and schedules. I took some time off from blogging and from my Good Morning Girls preparing and leaving for my trip, and then I continued my time off when I returned because of spring break with the kiddos and my husband.
Below is a sneak peak into my cleaning week, each week I'm in a different "zone" in my home and this week I'm working in my living room. I do try to keep a Weekly Schedule and a Daily Schedule. Please feel free to leave a comment below with any cleaning tips you may have along with a link to your blog site. If you too are just getting back from spring break I hope that you have a wonderful week jumping back into normal.
(Purple stays the same while the black changes from week to week)

If I don't use it, love it, or if it doesn't bring me joy when I look at it, I need to toss it or donate it.
Tuesday: Dust the tops of door jambs, tops of pictures, molding, windows, corners of the ceiling and the tops of the curtains
Wednesday: Work Meeting, Clean up yard, Dust the decorative items in my living room
Thursday: Detail floor cleaning, sweep it, dust it, mop it.

Weekly Schedule
Yesterday I shared with you my Daily Routine and today I am going to share with you my Weekly Schedule. Pairing these two together has proven to work for me in away that allows me to have more time for my family while at the same time keeping a clean house. Seems impossible, but its not! As I mentioned yesterday every family is different and so each schedule should be customized to fit your own family's needs. I use Flylady as a tool to help make my schedule and keep my home in order. I just love her system so much that I want to be able to share it with other women in hopes to bless their families as well. So please allow this to bless your family, don't get caught in perfection, just do your best and don't forget to schedule time with your kids and with your husband in your Daily Schedule.
My Weekly Schedule changes from week to week, moving from the Kitchen, to the Living room, to the Dinning room, to the Bathroom, to the Bedroom, to the Entrance way, etc. This week is actually a multi-zone week. What you see in purple stays the same from week to week, and what you see in black is what changes.
Also what FlyLady recommends, and what I recommend as well is to not spend more than 15 minutes on a task. This may seem crazy, but you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish in 15 minutes. Just set a timer and get started. Don't fret over the things that don't get perfectly cleaned, your precious time with your family is more important!
Sunday: Menu Plan, Clip coupons
Monday: Take out all trash, sweep & mop all rooms, dust, Vacuum all rooms, water plant, Polish mirrors and doors, clean sheets, Grocery shop
Tuesday: Dinning room Hotspots (clean up cluttered piles), Livingroom Hotspots
Wednesday: Work Meeting, Clean up yard, Clean up front porch
Thursday: Clean up shoe/coat closet, clean up front door entrance
Friday: Finish laundry, Clean out car, Clean playroom
Saturday: Clean out fridge
Of course there will be times that I am not able to do all these things in order, and thats ok. Also there will be times where I may need to to a task twice, especially the task of mopping. Scheduling has made life a little bit easier for me, and I hope that it makes life a little easier for you too.
Titus 2:3-5
"Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children,to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God."

Daily Schedule
Are you feeling overwhelmed at home? Overextended? Frustrated with your kids? Embarrassed to have company over? All because you don't have time to clean?
Who doesn't have these days right? I know I do, and we all know that a messy house can create stress and unrest, even in our children. So what I have found that works best for me and my family is scheduling, even though I'm not a natural "scheduler".
This has actually helped me find more time for my family while at the same time keeping my house cleaner that its ever been before.
Thankfully 5 years ago I was introduced to a website called FlyLady, please click on the link to check her out. I have been able to use her website as a tool to create a schedule that eliminates Spring Cleaning. Ironically her website can seem a little cluttered to visitors lol, but her advice is effective and amazing.
There is no one schedule that is going to fit every family, so if you think scheduling will work for you, customize it to fit your own family's unique needs. A schedule should bless your family and help turn your home into a haven, so don't get so obsessed with getting a perfectly clean house that you push your kids away, or just give up all together (I've been there, done that on both sides). Put perfection aside, maybe even let your kids help if you have the patience ;) . Take breaks when you need them, love on your family, and so what if ( fill in the blank) isn't spotless when you crawl into bed at night, be satisfied with what you have accomplished.
Below is my Daily Routine, tomorrow I will show you my Weekly Schedule. And with life being life, things don't always happen as planned, so sometimes I'm not able to get to a few things on my list or I do them out of order, and thats ok :)

Clean and Organized?

A neighbor came over and complimented me on how clean and organized my house was. Wow! I was really flattered! But if she only knew about my hidden messes, such as my closets and laundry room. Those things I can usually shut a door on and hide from company. I must also confess that though I do try to keep a clean and tidy house its not always this way. The FedEx man always seems to catch me off guard. It never fails, whenever he arrives at my door and I have to sign for a package my hair is in a towel, I am in a robe and the house is a disaster. I'm actually expecting a package next week, so I guess we'll see how that goes this time around.
I am not a neat freak and organizing does not come natural to me. In fact I am a big time procrastinator. So I use tools to help me such as http://flylady.net/ . Flylady is my biggest resource and I have been using her for 5 years now. Typing it I can't believe its been that long. A more recent motivator has been http://www.womenlivingwell-courtney.blogspot.com/. Courtney has great tips on homemaking, parenting, and marriage. And then there is the Proverbs 31 woman. This woman is amazing and is one to be admired. She can do it all! and she does it with grace, kindness, and with a passion. Read Proverbs 31:10-31 and you'll be motivated to get your home in order too.
So after my neighbor left I got started on cleaning out and organizing my closets. My bedroom closet was my biggest task.
Our bedroom before
and after! I added bins for our belts and hats
Our linen closet before
and after! I moved all of our games in this closet too. I even have a bucket of makers and crayons for the kids within their reach.
Our coat closet before
and after! I moved the kids' shoes to their closets and on the top shelf is a box for gloves and scarfs.
Skylar's closet before
After!
Maddox's closet before
and after!
Proverbs 31: 27 "She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness."
